The mill town
on the Saluda.
Piedmont straddles Greenville and Anderson counties near I-85. We repair and install on both sides of the line, with no travel fee.
Piedmont, two counties
One mill town,
two permit desks.
Piedmont is an unincorporated mill town on the Saluda River, split between Greenville County and Anderson County, just off I-85. The old Piedmont Manufacturing Company mill is why the place has the name. There is no city hall to take a permit. The county of the parcel does. Census estimates put the median year built at 1984, and about 54 percent of housing units are detached houses, lower than the ranch suburbs because mill housing and other building types share the town. Most of those detached roofs are asphalt shingle. The drive from our Rutherford Road shop is about seventeen miles, roughly half an hour.
A Greenville County address goes to Greenville County Building Safety. An Anderson County address goes to Anderson County Building and Codes. Electric service is a similar split. Duke Energy Carolinas serves portions of both counties, and Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative does too, with a district office on Pearman Dairy Road in Anderson. We do not assign a utility from the town name.
Panel faults are written up on solar panel repair. Taking an array off for shingles is detach and reset. If you can't reach the seller, start at orphaned systems. Use the request form and name the county if you know it. Easley and Anderson are the next towns down the corridor.
Who repairs solar panels in Piedmont?
We repair systems on both the Greenville County side and the Anderson County side of Piedmont, including arrays we did not install. Mill-era houses and later ranches fail differently. The first hour is testing, not a proposal to replace the roof of equipment.
What does solar service mean in an unincorporated town?
The same inspection, cleaning, and repair we do in Greenville. What changes is the office that permits the work and the utility that must accept it. Tell us the street and the county. “Piedmont” alone is not enough to know either one.
Is there a solar company for Piedmont, SC?
Detail Solar covers Piedmont from Greenville, about thirty minutes away, with no travel fee. We are the company on Rutherford Road, not a lead form that sells the ZIP code. New systems and service on existing ones are both in range.
Can you repair an inverter in Piedmont?
Yes. Inverter repair does not depend on which county the house sits in. The utility on the bill does matter if the inverter has to be replaced and re-interconnected. We troubleshoot the failure first and use the manufacturer warranty when it still covers that unit.
Who takes panels off for a Piedmont roof?
We detach and reset for roof replacements on both sides of the county line. The roofer still needs the array down before tear-off. Call us when you have the roof estimate. We coordinate the dates and test the system after the new shingles are on.
What if we can't reach the company that sold our system?
Piedmont has the same orphaned-system problem as the rest of the Upstate. You may not be able to reach the seller, and the equipment can still be under a manufacturer warranty. Bring the county with the address. We will look at the roof and chase coverage that is still in force.
Can Piedmont homes add a battery?
Storage is possible only if that meter’s utility will accept it. Duke Energy Carolinas and Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative will not process the request the same way. We read the bill, look at the panel, and tell you if this is a retrofit or an inverter change first.
How does solar maintenance work in Piedmont?
River-bottom trees and ordinary Upstate pollen both land on these roofs. Maintenance is a production check, a look for nests and loose connections, and a cleaning if the glass is the loss. Being on the county line does not change the craft. It changes which truck gate we use.

Frequently Asked Questions
Piedmont, SC
questions, answered.
Which county is a Piedmont address in?
It can be either. Piedmont is split by the Greenville and Anderson county line. The permit office follows the parcel. We look it up rather than asking you to know the line.
Do you charge extra for Piedmont?
No. It is about seventeen miles and roughly thirty minutes from the shop, a normal drive down the I-85 side of Greenville.
Does the old mill village change a solar repair?
The houses are older and often smaller than a new subdivision. We look at roof structure before we add weight or promise a layout. A repair of existing racking is a different question from filling every remaining square of shingle.
Which utility should I name when I call?
The one printed on the electric bill. In this town that is often Duke Energy Carolinas or Blue Ridge Electric Cooperative. The town name does not pick the utility.
